Iran's Tasnim News Agency claimed Ukraine deployed thousands of micro-drones near Iran.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Iraq strongly denied the allegations as disinformation.
Kyiv stressed it respects Iraq's sovereignty and has no military personnel in Kurdistan.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Iraq has denied reports from Iran's Tasnim News Agency alleging that Kyiv deployed thousands of drones to the Kurdistan Region, labeling the claims "entirely unfounded".
The Ukrainian Embassy stated that the allegations of drone deployments in Kurdistan "are entirely unfounded and amount to deliberate disinformation."
“We call on the media to exercise due diligence and to refrain from amplifying unverified claims,” the embassy stressed.
In a report published yesterday by Tasnim News Agency, a security source told the outlet that Ukraine is establishing an operational network of micro-drones across several countries surrounding Iran.
The source stated that Tehran views the alleged Ukrainian drone deployment as a Western-backed hostile action and is considering an appropriate response.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Iraq issued a statement on Wednesday dismissing reports first published by Tasnim that allege Kyiv deployed thousands of drones and specialized drone units to the Kurdistan Region.
The embassy emphasized that Ukraine “has not deployed any drones, drone units or related personnel in the Kurdistan Region or anywhere else in Iraq.”
“Ukraine fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Iraq,” the statement said, adding that it “deeply values its friendship with the Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government.”
The Kurdistan Region has increasingly become a battlefield amid heightened geopolitical tensions between regional powers.
According to independent monitoring data, the region has faced over 1,000 cross-border drone and missile attacks since early 2026, amid a regional conflict that erupted between the US, Israel, and Iran.
These frequent strikes, often attributed to several armed groups, have repeatedly targeted critical infrastructure, civilian areas, and Kurdish opposition camps.
The attacks have caused significant casualties and severe economic strain across Erbil and Duhok.
Faced with these persistent security pressures, the Kurdistan Regional Government has maintained a strict policy of neutrality.
Kurdish leaders continue to reject involvement in external conflicts and demand that the region not be used to launch proxy operations.
Furthermore, Erbil has repeatedly urged the federal government in Baghdad and the international community to safeguard its airspace.
Balancing these intense cross-border threats while protecting domestic security remains a continuous struggle for the Kurdish leadership.
