The University of Sulaimani announced a major milestone for higher education in the region as the College of Dentistry's academic journal has been officially accepted into the prestigious global Scopus database following years of systematic research and modernization efforts.
Dr. Kosar Mohamed Ali, President of the University of Sulaimani, announced that, “Today, the University of Sulaimani announces another academic achievement: one of its journals, belonging to the College of Dentistry, has been accepted into the Scopus database.”
“This is a major scientific achievement for the University of Sulaimani, the city of Sulaimani, and the higher education sector in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” he emphasized.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the university president highlighted that this milestone is the culmination of years of dedicated efforts by a broad university team comprising researchers, academics, and students.
Ali noted that the University of Sulaimani currently publishes six journals and has systematically developed a digital platform to modernize the process for researchers and authors. This initiative, he added, forms part of a broader strategic effort to secure inclusion for the university's publications in premier global databases like Scopus and Clarivate.
The president underlined that the journal's inclusion in this database “testifies to the high standard of research at the University of Sulaimani, particularly the College of Dentistry's journal, reflecting full compliance with all strict Scopus guidelines and research ethics.”
Founded in 1968, the University of Sulaimani is the oldest and most prestigious public higher education institution in the Kurdistan Region, continuing to secure its place as a top-ranked academic hub in Iraq.
The university has consistently maintained the number one research ranking across the region in global academic indexes.
Demonstrating its elite academic standard, eighteen of its leading professors were recently named in Stanford University's global list of top scientists.
Furthermore, its College of Dentistry has been recognized as a national leader for producing top-tier, high-impact scientific research.
Adding a historic milestone to this record of excellence, the university’s dental journal has now been officially accepted into the Scopus database.
Scopus is the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, managed by the global academic publisher Elsevier.
Inclusion in this elite platform requires passing a highly rigorous evaluation process based on strict international research guidelines and ethics.
This achievement validates that the university’s scientific output officially meets the highest global standards for academic publication.
By entering the Scopus database, the University of Sulaimani will significantly expand its international visibility and elevate its global academic ranking.
