Iraq’s Federal Commission of Integrity ordered the arrest of a former Saladin accounts official.
The suspect is accused of misappropriating 2.975 billion IQD meant for generator fuel.
A separate probe revealed public fund waste at Duz Khurmatu (Tuz Khurmatu) Hospital.
An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Salah al-Din accounts official accused of embezzling nearly three billion dinars (2.97B IQD) meant for generator fuel. Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity also uncovered a separate public fund waste scheme involving uninstalled medical equipment at Duz Khurmatu (Tuz Khurmatu) Hospital.
The Federal Commission of Integrity announced that “an arrest warrant has been issued against a former official in the accounts department of Salah al-Din Governorate. This follows his appropriation of nearly three billion dinars allocated for supplying generator fuel.”
The Commission also uncovered public fund waste at Tuz Hospital, where unneeded medical equipment was left uninstalled.
The Federal Commission of Integrity said on Sunday that an auditing investigation by its Salah al-Din office revealed a former accounts department official had misappropriated 2.975 billion dinars.
The embezzled funds were originally allocated for a critical generator fuel supply project spanning multiple local directorates and public initiatives.
The accused allegedly acquired the funds from the fuel procurement committee by falsely claiming authorization from the Governor and subsequently refused to return the money.
Following the investigation, a specialized judge at the Salah al-Din Investigation Court issued an arrest warrant for the suspect under Article 316 of the Penal Code.
In a separate crackdown, the Commission uncovered a waste of public funds within the Salah al-Din Health Directorate involving unneeded medical equipment delivered to Tuz Hospital. Investigators found that the machinery was left uninstalled and exposed to deterioration, citing significant delays in the execution of the procurement contracts.
An investigative team raided the Governorate's Health Directorate, confiscating all primary contract documents under a formal seizure report.
The uninstalled machinery was found to include five blood-drawing chairs, five electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, a laboratory incubator, and three centrifuges.
The arrest warrant for the former Saladin accounts official is part of an aggressive, ongoing anti-corruption campaign led by Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity.
This specific probe follows a string of recent high-profile actions in the province targeting systemic embezzlement and administrative fraud. In recent weeks, investigators in Saladin have dismantled a multi-billion dinar financial ring involving senior traffic officers and arrested the head of the provincial Investment Commission.
The province has historically been a focal point for federal watchdogs, resulting in the high-profile detentions of former governors Ahmed Abdullah al-Jubouri and Ammar Jabr al-Jubouri.
Authorities have also carried out massive asset recovery operations in the region, seizing billions in hidden cash, real estate deeds, and gold from corrupt sector officials. The application of strict Penal Code articles in this generator fuel case reflects Baghdad's intensified efforts to deter the institutional theft of public funds.
